Mark Mullen, born and raised in Lincoln County, is President of the longest
running family-owned insurance agency in Lincoln County. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, he returned to Lincolnton to join his family’s business, and his twenty-plus years at Citizens Insurance have established him as a pillar in the community, both professionally and civically. Mark has served on various boards, all reaching into the community and specifically aiding children of Lincoln County. Whether as a member of Kiwanis, which keeps shoes on the feet of area children, or with the local Rotary Club which helps send those same kids to college, his interest in creating a path to success for the next generation is evident. Currently serving his third term on the county Board of Education, having served five years as Chairman of the Board, Mark has continuously been elected to shape the educational path for all of Lincoln County Schools.

Mark leans heavily on his Christian faith and values in every decision that he
makes. He enjoys serving within his community, whether at church, youth
athletics, or community nonprofits, and is passionate about the value of
engagement and giving back.

When away from the office or his volunteering passions, Mark is home with his wife and two growing boys and can often be found in his woodworking shop or tending to his bee hives and garden. A farmer at heart, finding Mark on a tractor in the fields is not out of the ordinary, the quiet lull of the plow is both stress-relieving and where he finds solitude.

Mark plans to use his passion for the community, education, business and political experience, understanding of complex budgets, ability to listen, and years of governing, to continue to make Lincoln County the best place to live, work, play, and simply enjoy community.
